Jet Lag

Writer: Risel FurtadoRisel Furtado

It had to happen at some point and today was the day. I needed espresso to keep my eyes open 👀👀👀. It was a productive day in getting around and getting some things done.

I pulled out my Portuguese book, for absolute beginners and started to read it again. The key is not to think in English but think in Portuguese, listen to the daily conversations to pick up words and participate with what I am learning. Today I heard a salutation that sounded out of context with what I read and Ernest explained that it was the slang version of what I learned.

It feels a little strange to be here like I am in a time warp. My body expects a fall coat to worn and it's pleasantly warm to hot here.

I saw a van unloading Christmas decorations to decorate the streets. Wow! We bought one of Ernest's favourite snacks, chestnuts roasting on an open fire.

We found our Canadian embassy today too! It's always good to know where the embassy is when we travel.

The picture of the food is more in line with the traditional Portuguese meal. I don't know what the grilled fish was but it tasted like herring. Boa noite and Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian family and friends!

I used it but it's not often accurate. In Portugal most people want to practice their English, so getting around is easy. We're traveling around here for several months.

Do you have the Google Translate app?  So much fun.  Will you be traveling or settling in there?  ann
